No less radical now than when they were first shown in the 1930s, with his surreal nudes Kertész manipulates and warps the female form with mirrors in a way that feels beautiful in its strangeness rather than grotesque; often humorous but never cruel.
Once assumed lost, the deteriorated negatives were restored, allowing the full series to be brought together in this dreamlike 1976 book.
