Conceptual artist Keith Arnatt takes a technically beautiful portrait of someone with their pet, the real story here is the relationship between dog and owner. Not so much exploring how they look like one another, although unsurprisingly they almost always do, but capturing their individual personalities and how they complement each other’s characters. Anyone who exercises their dog on Leith Walk every day can relate. 

There's a social element to all this too; Arnatt understood that for the lonely, walking the dog might bring about the only conversation with another human being they’ll have that day, but he also captures a cross section of not just people but breeds, albeit it culturally reflective of a certain time and place in UK history.
